The Aerodynamic Performance of the Small-Scale Wind Turbine Blade with NACA0012 Airfoil

Small-scale wind turbine (SSWT) has been the subject of intensive research to complement its large-scale counterpart especially for usage in low speed regions. Two important issues that plague development SSWT are power coefficient due Reynold’s number () condition it’s operating and start-up difficulty it faces. In this paper, blade element momentum theory (BEMT) used analyse a small-scale having 3 m diameter. The airfoil is NACA 0012. simplified experimental based equations have determine lift, drag, airfoil. A developed MATLAB’s code applying basic BEMT method used. results aerodynamic performances including coefficient, thrust given as function speed, tip ratio (TSR) number. It shows at minimum m/s, can 43% but produce 600 W required total needs electrical consumption household, needed 5m/s which reachable region.
